WREN MORROW

Photographer — Morrow Studio, Brooklyn

Black-and-white portrait of Wren Morrow, a woman with a fringe and round glasses wearing a dark turtleneck
Wren, self-timer, studio window.

I make photographs of people wearing things, marrying people, and being looked at — and I try to make the looking feel kind.

Morrow Studio is me, a small Brooklyn studio with one north-facing window, and a handful of people I call when the job needs more hands. I shoot for labels, magazines and couples, and I travel when the light is worth it.

I don’t have a style so much as a habit: wait for the light, stay a little longer than planned, and leave the frame alone once it’s right.

Approach

  1. 01Light first, then location, then everything else.
  2. 02Small crews. Most days it’s three of us.
  3. 03Direction is quiet. People look like themselves when nobody is shouting.
  4. 04Every edit is tight. You get the best frames, not every frame.
  5. 05Colour is graded by eye, one set at a time. No presets.
